My grandmama's china

 I always like to display my Grandmama's china in January and February.  It's Nocturne and it has black roses with blush petals.  I made the runner to go with it in 2016.

And then in 2021 I made this wall hanging for the adjacent wall.

I think my Grandmama would like them both!

Time for Tea

Several years ago I made a table runner to go on my china hutch when I display my Grandmama's china.  I love the pink and grey together. I think I made it in 2016.  I've long wanted to make a wallhanging to go with it as I have a quilt hanger adjacent to the china hutch. This was the year to do it!  The teapot is a Lori Holt pattern and the teacups are from a free mini quilt from Kate Spain. (note: I really need to make that mini quilt!  It is so cute!)

I couldn't decide if I wanted the teacups on top or bottom.  I also changed out the steam to the light grey you see here.  

This steam looked like smoke!

And here is a poor picture of it on the wall.  The grey isn't really this dark but I was unable to get a good photo.  I quilted it with a diamond grid and I'm pleased with it. 

 

Baubles

Many years ago I made a quilt for my Grandmama using Georgette Christmas.  I had some fabric left over so I saved it.  When we were clearing out my Grandmama's house, my aunt asked if she could keep the quilt.  I said yes, of course.  My auntie is a quilter too and I knew she would enjoy it.  So this weekend, I asked myself what did I want to sew?  And it was this little quilt. I'm hoping to sew the blocks together tonight.  It isn't exactly like the first one but I'll always think of my Grandmama when I see it.

 

New fabric report and finished project

I'm going to try to keep up with this report in 2016!  I did okay in 2015 and then got bogged down and lost track of things.  I think I am going to count fabric as used when I finish a top-it takes me forever to get the backs together and I want to keep feeling like I'm doing something!

I already know I want to get  a FQ bundle of Little Joys before it is unavailable and I definitely am going to need more Kona White to finish my Cool Yule quilt. The grey and pink table runner from yesterday was all from stash!! I love it when I am able to make something just using stash.  I needed this one as I put away all of my Christmas things and pulled out my Grandmama's china to display.  The china is grey and white with a hint of pink.

Finished just in time.

Finished in time for my mom to take with her to visit Gma for her birthday. My brother drove mom up this time and I stayed home to take care of dad. DH recommended that I iron it before wrapping it. This is the before picture! This is the after. The ironing really improved it! Gma said she liked it when I spoke to her on the phone.

Where has the time gone?

Obviously, I've gotten in a little sewing time. This is Gma's quilt for her birthday on the 25th. It would be finished but we went up to visit her last weekend as she's in the hospital. She won't be having her planned birthday party on the 25th though as she will still be in rehab.

Up next . . .

Did absolutely no sewing this weekend. Was completely overbooked on Saturday and then had the worst sinus headache of my life on Sunday. Managed to make it to Mass and boy, was I dismayed to see a visiting choir! Feel much better today which is good because it is the first day of school at my school!

Just ordered fabric for my newest project. Sorry for the tiny pic but I grabbed it off Baum's site. This will be a little wall hanging (about 35x35) for my Gma's birthday. That is if I can finish it in time! When I saw the gold ornament fabric I knew I had to make something with it for her. This fabric line is called Georgette Christmas.

Merry Christmas Gma!

I finally finished my Gma's Christmas present! This scalloped apron is from the Susan Branch pattern. It is modeled here by the World's Best Admin Asst. This is the second time I've made it and I think I did a better job this time. I sewed the pieces together before I applied the bias tape. It took longer to do each step but it made applying the bias tape easier. Next time I think I will top stitch to make the scallops lay flatter. Now I need to buy some chocolate to replace what I ate to finish off the gift!

Shall we call it soft sculpture?

Finished in time for my Gma's 85th birthday this weekend!!!!!!!!!!! Am v. pleased. Was not pleased, however, by DH's comment last night that he really doesn't like folk art.

Table Runner for Gma

I quilted the table runner for Gma on Sunday. I had brought all my supplies over to my mother's as my brother was there with his kids and I wanted to see them and let my boyos play with them. It didn't go well. My mom's sewing set up is different than mine and I didnt use enough basting spray so after I quilted two lines I had to rip it out. *sigh*

We made two trips to JoAnns. The first to get some more serger thread-guess who is going to hem her summer dresses? And then DH and my kayak-obsessed brother wanted us to meet them there so they could pick out some nylon. They want me to make a splash skirt, a tonneau cover and an ill-advised sail for the kayak. Does the Coast Guard answer 911? I need to find out before they try out the sail.

After the boyos and I got home I pulled out my machine and quilted the table runner. The boyos are obsessed with the machine so I kept bribing them with cookies to let me finish. I was able to get it quilted and the binding sewn on. Then DH and brother came home and started working on building what they called a flower box and I called a pram. So I was able to finish hand-sewing the binding.

The table runner looked a little bare so I made two yo-yos and sewed them on with buttons. The shape of it makes me think it looks like a baby quilt! The measurements are 22 by 30.5 inches .But it will look nice on Gma's kitchen island. I used polyester batting on this quilt and I will never use it again. It is tooooooo lofty. I'll stick to warm n' natural from here on out. It isn't that expensive, especially with the generous coupons from JoAnns.

I put the runner in the mail Tuesday. I hope Gma gets it before Easter. She's out of the hospital now and I know she's upset that she won't be able to come to visit. I'm hoping she can come this summer. We're kind of in a catch-22: it's getting harder for her to travel and it's harder for me and the boyos to visit her house. Her home is lovely but full of breakable things that fascinate the boyos.
