Peanut quilts. . .

This is Camp Peanuts-it's not any where near finished.  I didn't mean to put the borders on yet-Have no idea how to finish this!!!!!!

This is Snoopy as the Flying Ace.  I've already sent it off to Karen the Quilter.  I bought this kit at the Quilt Show in October.

a whole lot of pj sewing this summer!

This is my sister teaching Sarah how to sew.  Sarah loved her pjs and the top MaaMaa appliqued for her.

Here I am teaching Surina how to show-she chose "nonfiction" fabric!

And then my sister and I used left over fabric from her own pjs and Surina's to make little SoSo a pair-fiction and nonfiction legs!
And finally a pair of pjs for baby Samie.  We used this Dr Who fabric in two and a half pairs of pjs!  I opted to put elastic at the ankles of these as Samie is learning to crawl and I figure it will be more comfortable for her.

I also made a pair of pjs for Magpie out of the Dr Who van gogh fabric.  I cut the waist shorter as she usually wears pjs low on her hips-but I may have cut them too low.  I hope she is still able to wear them! That used up three yards of fabric-plus I have mostly sewing a pair each for my boyos!

what i did on my summer vacation . . .

I decided I really wanted to get some of my woolie kits finished up-no good just sitting in a drawer! The little Easter chick I started last spring and petered out-I'm too tired when I get home to stitch carefully.   So I knocked that one out first.  Next up was the mini Summer Pails-love those pinwheels!  And finally the Sailboat.

I also started another woolie called Garden Walk.  (All of these woolies are apparently by Lily Anna Stitches.  It seems I may be slightly addicted.)  I don't have a photo of that one yet.  It requires doing double blanket stitching so it is taking me a while to get some work done.

I have also acquired some fabric so I guess I need to update my fabric report. . .

fabric report 6/21

I decided not to border the blue and yellow quilt but I haven't done anything else to it yet.  I really need to get moving-look at my numbers!  Darn Dr Who fabric!

I ended up finding the Starry Night Dr Who fabric and bought three yards.  I'll be glad I did someday.

Then I ordered six fat quarters of Kiss the Cook by Dear Stella.  Red really loves the fabric.  I think I'll make potholders out of it.

to border or not to border

We've been under a tropical storm warning since last night so I spent the day sewing.  Now I'm trying to decide if I want to border this one or not.

Fabric Report

Guess I better get moving on my blue and yellow quilt!  I went to Joann's and bought a yard each of two different Dr Who fabrics and three yards of an adorable Viking flannel. I also ordered some fat quarters online but they aren't here yet!

new project

For some reason I really been drawn to blue lately-it must be all that Cub Scouting!  I normally don't care for blue at all but I saw a HST quilt in blues and yellows somewhere and was really captured by it.  So this has pushed it's way to the top of my queue. I was trying to decide if I wanted to add some light blue but after playing around I'm definitely going to go for the high contrast of blue and yellow.

fabric report

I haven't done any sewing to speak of this week. Neither did I purchase any fabric though I was sorely tempted! I've been focusing on digging through boxes of stuff that are all over the house in hopes of getting rid of some of them.  I did start on the Gingham Check Shawlette pattern I downloaded from knitpicks.com.  I'm doing it in shades of yellow for my sister.  I've started it about five times.  I hope I'm doing it properly!

I was really happy to finish this quilt for the Auction.  It went to our good friend Danny for $300!  And, even better, look at the state of my fabric report!

gone fishin'

So here is my weekend's work.  I still need to decide what I am going to do about the borders.  The pattern has a two inch stop border and a six inch outer border.  I don't think the stop border is going to work-plus I'm out of fabric!  So I think I am going to just use the brown fishing lures fabric.  Need to calculate that out.  I did end up replacing the canoe fabric with the blue float bobbin fabric. Thankfully, it was on sale as was the other yard of batik I added to stash. I'm looking forward to next week's fabric report as I am going to claim all I used in this quit-plus three yards of backing!

seriously need to get moving on this quilt!

So I really need to get moving on this auction quilt! I planned to sew over the Easter weekend but I was so busy with family things that I never even touched fabric! I had to order two more yards of the fabric shown here:
I think it will look really good both in the blocks and for the border.  I have cut out the rest of the fabric so I just need to make some cuts of this and get sewing! I'll be really glad when this quilt is finished because I am using around five yards in the top and at least three for the backing!  I'll have a really good fabric report then.

getting started: auction quilt

I started pulling fabric for the Cub Scout auction quilt this week.  I had planned to use the Take a Hike fat quarter stack but as I started pulling all of my fabrics out and mixing and matching I ended up liking the fishing fabric the best.
So I went out and bought two yards of batiks-one dark red and one grey.  I think it will look really good.  This isn't a  great pic of the fabric so after I get some blocks made I'll add another.

One more yard

Elementary Black Equations Yardage SKU# 5568-12
got a wild hair on Friday and decided to google and see if there were any new yarn shops in my area.  And lo! I found one in the little town where I went to High School.  It's called Park Avenue Yarns and it's fantastic!  I asked and found out that they have been there for four years.  They have tons of yarn, knitting needles that I've never even heard of, fiber for spinning, tapestry kits and fabric!  If they had bobbin lace supplies I'd really be sunk!  I managed to hold onto sanity and only bought one yard of fabric.  One of the ladies at work is expecting her first child and, as she is a mathematician, I really had to buy this fabric. Its's from Sweetwater, the Elementary line.  I don't know  what I am going to make yet, the baby isn't due until September, but I'm glad to have this on hand.

Keeping track

I'm going to try keeping track of my fabric purchases this year.  I've been spending all my time knitting instead of sewing but I am planning to use some of the fabric I just bought to make a blankie for my niece's birthday on Sunday.  That will take 2.5 yards.  I also need to get cracking on the quilt I'm planning to donate to the Cub Scout auction.

finished scarf

I have been home sick with the "Carolina crud" since my last post.  For the first two days I felt so terrible I didn't do anything but lay in bed and cough and blow my nose.  On the afternoon of the third day I started feeling a little more human so I started working on the Multidirectional Scarf reknit. I just finished today and still need to weave in the ends. The black/grey/maroon scarf is one I knit for DH several years ago.  It was wider and shorter than my green one but I wore it instead of the green.  Now I can finally enjoy my green one.

As you can see, I nearly ran out of yarn!  I was really worried that I had made it too wide and was going to have to rip it all out and reknit it again.  I even starting weighing the yarn to see how much it took to finish one of the triangles.

this used to be a scarf

This used to be a Multidirectional Scarf-at least it was until yesterday.  I knit it too narrow-about 4.5 inches and almost never wore it-and it was too long like spaghetti.  Instead I wear the one I knit for DH.  So yesterday I took it to the beach with me to unravel during our Pooh and Piglet Picnic.  It was a little tough to unravel as Noro Kureyon is very grabby-it broke a lot too.  But I think if I knit it about 8 or 9 inches wide I will get a lot more use out of it.

I've been feeling very knitty lately.  I ran out of yarn of the feather and fan socks so need to find something to finish the toes.  And I need to reknit the toes on DH's latest blue socks.  And I'd really like to knit two pixie caps for babies that I know.  My brother and his wife are welcoming daughter #3 today and she needs a cap from Auntie!

today's doings

Well, I patched two pairs of pjs for Tig-he is so rough on his clothes! And shaved all the pills of a hand-me-down dinosaur sweater (he's really into dinosaurs right now).

I also walked a mile on the treadmill.

So I get an A today!

Gettin' Organized

Well, I accomplished two of my goals from 2014.  I finished my Pilgrims and replaced my horrible carpet!  And there was much rejoicing!  I would have preferred to replace the carpet with laminate or tile but DH really wanted carpet. We have two boyos and two dogs so I think a hard surface would be better but I'll go along with it this time.

DH, the boyos, and I have spent the last three days going through our excess of stuff.  We made a good start in the attic with plans to finish next Saturday.  Today we did half of the boyos room.  The other half is all stuff that belongs to DH.  He has promised to go through all of it so that we can turn the boyos room back into the boyos room and not DH's storage area.  DH has also promised to clear off the back patio so that we can actually use the space and not have to look at his piles of junk.

I go back to work on Monday after two weeks off so my goals for tomorrow are to do my laundry and reorganize my sewing area.  I really enjoy being at home-I honestly wish I did not have to work. I'd love to be a stay at home mom.  Instead I go to work and DH is a stay at home dad.

Anyway, my word for 2015 is Organization.  Our house is a disaster area and I just cannot stand it anymore.  I explained to DH that when the house is a mess, like it has been for a long while, I cannot relax.  And when I cannot relax I get more and more tightly wound which is unpleasant for everyone.  We're coming up on our ten year anniversary so I'd like to start our next decade together with a comfortable house.

My goals for 2015:
  1. replace the horrible sofa
  2. get healthy-eat better and walk daily
  3. spend more time creating-there are lots of quilts to be made and I've got some wool projects that are calling my name
  4. finish Woodsy association gloves for Tig.  I need to duplicate stitch the animals on and that will take me a lot of time to do properly
  5. I'd also like to manage my time better.  I always feel rushed and stressed and I'd like to look at that and see if I need to commit to a Rule of Life.  I think that would help.
Anyway, off to a good start in 2015!
