Doghouse sample
This is the sample I made for the Book Club. It's the Karen Montgomery companion pattern for the book club. The pattern is called House and Home. I'm not sure if I want to make the table runner or not so I just worked on the houses. I used leftover Minick & Simpson fabrics.

A "normal" block
It felt so good to stitch this block. I felt like I was doing something "normal" after the dogs quilt. LOL

And it's a top
One of my goals for the weekend was to get the borders on this quilt. And here it is! It is nearly a square quilt, the length is about two inches shorter than the width. I'm proud of it as it was a lot of work to get the dogs all facing the correct direction! Now I need to piece some minky for the backing. . .
After this is quilted and bound, I plan to snuggle with it on the sofa-with my dog!

A stop border. . .
I was going to add a 2.5 inch stop border but had a re-think and went for 1.5. It will finish at 1 inch which feels right. I still need to cut and add the dog border fabric. The stop border is a little ruffly so I may need to re-do it.

A little hexie love
So the company, Paper Pieces, hands out these little sample kits at the Houston Quilt Festival every year. I usually share mine-like I got my sister hooked-but I've never done one. So I pulled one out and stitched up this hexie goodness. I plan to applique it on red fabric and make a mug rug out of it.
The instruction page from Paper Pieces warns that hexies are addictive. This is most certainly true!!

Gone to the dogs
So I am working on a sample quilt for my book club. This is the Reflections pattern by Karen Montgomery. (It's basically a delectable mountains block.) I had planned to use this funky fabric but as I was digging around for brown fabric in my stash I came across these dogs and was smitten! I had to use them. Of course, I couldn't make it easy on myself.
The first block showed me that I, after cutting the fabric as instructed, would have to have the blocks in a vertical orientation. I really prefer the horizontal version. Can you see how the dogs are facing? So I cut another test block and got all of the dogs going the right way. I'm leaving out lots of cutting errors as I sub-cut the pieced blocks (grrrr). I had to get DH to help me lay out the blocks as it was! Tonight I'm hoping to get another full block pieced so I can try the alternating blocks. I'm hoping to have this finished for Book Club on Saturday so I really need to spend some time. I had two yards of the dog fabric and I was hoping to have some for a border but it's not looking good. And this is really old fabric!!

A new Saturday Sampler
It's time for a new Saturday Sampler! This year we are doing Mineral Matrix from Wing and A Prayer. I had said to my Quilty BFF that I was not doing another Wing and A Prayer BOM but I really liked the colors!

More sample blocks
I bought three dies over the last couple of months. I always test the dies to make sure they cut well when I get them. I cut out the fabric for these three blocks over Christmas break then succumbed to the flu so I'm just now getting them together.
This final one is Chinese Lanterns. It was actually the most difficult one. You have to cut the fabric with some pieces facing up and some facing down. I got some of it wrong and had to recut!

Which, truthfully, isn't what I planned to make. And it really isn't that crooked either. So this is from the Tiny Town version ...
